Mirror Shift

A symmetric board with a few mistakes. Restore the symmetry.

Start at

> Level 1: 4×4 to 5×5 boards, a left–right mirror, one pose wrong

How to play

  1. 01The board is meant to be symmetric across the mirror line, but a few pieces are in the wrong pose.
  2. 02A mirror flips poses as well as places: across a left–right mirror, a piece facing left has a partner facing right.
  3. 03Tap a piece to turn it around. That is all a wrong pair needs, and tapping again turns it back.
  4. 04Either side can be the one you change, so pick whichever is closer.
  5. 05Restore the whole board before the clock runs out. Turning a piece that was already right is the only mistake, and tapping it again puts it back.
  6. 06The mirror changes as you climb: left–right, then top–bottom, then the diagonal, then a half turn. Master mixes all four.
  7. 07You have three lives. Running out of time costs one and gives you a fresh board at the same level.
  8. 08On a keyboard: the arrow keys move around the board, and Space turns a piece.

About

Mirror Shift is a spatial game about seeing symmetry, including the kind that flips poses. Every board is generated fresh around a symmetric pattern, then a few pieces are knocked out of pose.

The mirror line is always an empty row, column or diagonal, because a piece sitting on the line could never mirror itself.

Boards grow from 4×4 to 7×7, and the pieces gain shades, shapes and sizes, which makes a wrong pose harder to spot.

Tips

  • > Work pair by pair, not piece by piece: pick a piece, find its partner across the line, and compare.
  • > Poses are the giveaway. Two pieces facing the same way across a left–right mirror are always wrong.
  • > On the diagonal, left mirrors to up and right mirrors to down. It takes a moment to trust that.
  • > For a half turn, look at the piece diagonally opposite through the middle of the board.
  • > The count of wrong pairs is on screen. When it drops, your last turn fixed something.

FAQ

Which piece of a pair is the wrong one?

Either. The goal is symmetry, not the original board, so making the pair match counts however you do it. Pick the side that takes fewer taps.

Why did my turn make things worse?

You turned a piece whose pair was already right. Tap it again to put it back; only the clock is lost.

Is it free?

Yes. Every level is free to play in your browser, with no account and nothing to download.
